Events And Eligibility
In keeping with the traditional framework of the ASEAN Bridge Club Championships, competition will be held in the five traditional events: Open Pairs, Mixed Teams, Open Teams, Ladies Teams, and Youth Teams. Upon agreement of the ASEAN delegates, the 2013 ABCC will also mark the debut of the Seniors Teams competition. To highlight the importance of youth-oriented bridge in the ASEAN region, there will also be a separate Youth Pairs event. And as always, for those teams who do not make it to the finals of their respective events, a Swiss Teams event is held on the last day of the tournament.
All participants, whether they are members of an ASEAN NBO or not, are eligible to win the event awards in the Open Pairs, Mixed Teams and the final-day Swiss Teams.
For the Open/Ladies/Seniors/Youth Team competition, only ASEAN teams are eligible to move on to the finals, to determine which team takes home the perpetual trophies awarded in each event. However, the two highest ranking non-ASEAN entries in each category will also go through another finals match, to determine the highest-ranking non-ASEAN teams, with separate trophies awarded for that purpose. (Note: a team is considered as an "ASEAN team" if ALL the team members are members in good standing of an ASEAN NBO, or failing that, are currently citizens or legal residents of an ASEAN country).
Youth events are open to all players who are 25 years old or younger as of 31 December 2013. If asked, youth players must be ready to present their passports (or a certification from their NBO), to substantiate that they are within the allowed age limit.
